‎Woman Stabs Daughter to Death, Commits Suicide After Sending Brother Away With Sh200

‎Residents of Kangari area in Kigumo constituency, Murang’a County, are in deep shock following an incident in which a young mother killed her child before taking her own life.

‎On the eve of the New Year, 25‑year‑old Jane Nyambura ended the life of her three‑year‑old daughter, Tianna Kabutha, before taking her own.

‎Nyambura had returned to her parents’ home in December to celebrate the festive season. Relatives recall her as cheerful, social, and full of laughter. Her mother, Esther Njeri, said nothing had suggested her daughter was in distress.

‎On the morning of the tragedy, Njeri left for Kangari market, leaving Nyambura and Tianna at home. Later that evening, she received a call from a neighbour urging her to rush back.

‎On arrival home, she found Nyambura’s body hanging from the ceiling, while Tianna lay lifeless with stab wounds.

‎The family’s last-born son, a Grade Nine student, had spent part of the day with Nyambura. He saw her holding a rope and jokingly asked her what she planned to do. She brushed it off, gave him Sh200, and sent him to the market to buy shoes. When he returned, he found the door locked and later discovered the tragic scene, prompting him to seek help from neighbours.

‎A family friend said Nyambura had recently graduated with a finance degree in 2024 but had remained unemployed. Friends, relatives, and neighbours have since visited the home to offer condolences and support.

‎The tragedy has sparked conversations about youth unemployment, mental health, and the need for young people to seek help during difficult times. Many residents are calling for stronger support systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
