Who Owns Muthokinju: Smart Brains Behind The Popular Brand ‘Muthokinju’, Why is it So Successful?

Muthokinju Paints and Cement Hardware has established itself as a standout brand, founded by Barnabas Njuguna and Susan Muthoni Kimani. The name “Muthokinju” is a fusion of the founders’ names—Muthoni (MUTHO) Kimani (KI) and Njuguna (NJU), reflecting their shared vision.

Their venture into the construction business was largely inspired by Susan’s experience running an eatery in Kenyatta Market. However, both founders decided against pursuing the café business, as they found selling perishable goods challenging. Instead, they chose to focus on the hardware industry, a decision that would propel their future success.

Over the years, Muthokinju Paints has experienced significant growth, now operating 14 stores and employing over 150 staff members. The business has been passed down to their son, Benjamin, who serves as the Managing Director, along with his wife, Sarafina Njatha, the Operations Director.

The company’s success can also be attributed to its embrace of technology, which has streamlined its operations and enhanced customer service. Each of Muthokinju’s stores features an in-house designer, offering personalized advisory services to help customers select the perfect color combinations.
