The sound ‘ Kassongo yeye’ has been making rounds across Tiktok. Kenyans have been using the sound in memes. Kassongo Yeye has over 114, 000 videos using the sound. The sound became popular as Ugandan pastor Aloysius Bujingo sang to his congregants at House of Prayer ministries in Makerere.

The pastor is believed to be using the song as he preached to the church. Pastor Bujingo singing had netizens use his voice quickly becoming a trend. Pastor Bujingo is the original challenge behind the song.

Kassongo Yeye is a song by the classic Kenyan band Super Orchestra Mazembe. The song is about a woman calling her husband, Kassongo, and pleading with him to return to their marriage. It is originally sung in Lingala. The lyrics ‘Kassongo Yeye ee, mobali na ngai, Kassongo nga nawe oo, zonga libala ee.’ It translates to ‘ Kasongo, my husband, Kasongo, I am dying, come back to the marriage.’

Super Orchestra Mazembe was a popular band playing Soukous music. The band originated from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC ) and Zaire. They later moved to Nairobi in 1974 changing their name from Super Vox. Their name translates to ‘giant earth movers. ‘ Some of the group’s hit songs include Shauri Yako, Bwana Nipe Pesa and Samba. The band comprised Love Longomba, Kassongo was Kanema, Bukasa was Bukasa, Rapok Kayembe Mikato, Kombat Kassongo, Mutonkole Longway, Fataki Lokassa, Lobe Mapako, Tailos and Dodo Doris.

Lovy Longomba did the vocals and he is the son of Vicky Longomba brother to famous Congolese musician Awilo Longomba. His sons Christian and Lovi formed the popular Kenyan group Longombas famous for their song Queen. Kassongo wa Kanema one of the original members of the band passed away in 2020. He was the father to former Camp Mulla member Shappaman. The legendary musician served as a guitarist, singer, and song composer for Super Mazembe for 40 years.
