Fresh allegations have emerged following the violent scenes that rocked the outskirts of Nairobi during this year’s Saba Saba protests.
Prominent lawyer and political strategist Saitabao Ole Kanchory has claimed that the chaos and looting witnessed across several towns was not the work of genuine protesters but of government-sponsored goons.
The demonstrations, largely organized by Kenya’s Gen Z, were meant to be peaceful but quickly descended into violence in towns like Kitengela, Kiserian, and Ngong.
Businesses were ransacked, property destroyed, and some buildings set ablaze as unidentified youths ran riot in broad daylight.
While the Nairobi Central Business District remained relatively calm under tight security, tension shifted to satellite towns where law enforcement presence was minimal or overwhelmed.
Kanchory, in a strongly worded statement, alleged that the destruction was part of a calculated plan to discredit the protesters.
He insisted that rogue elements were planted to sabotage the genuine demands of the demonstrators and create fear among business owners and the wider public.
“All goons and criminal gangs who infiltrate peaceful protests are government-sponsored—all, with the exception of none,” Kanchory stated via social media.
The lawyer’s claims have sparked widespread debate online, with many Kenyans demanding accountability and transparency regarding police inaction in the face of visible looting and arson.

Traders in affected areas now face massive losses, while videos circulating online show officers standing idly as businesses are attacked.
As investigations continue, Kenyans are calling for an independent probe to determine who was behind the violence and whether security agencies failed in their duty—or worse, turned a blind eye.
