Tinderet Member of Parliament Julius Melly has announced that legislators from the Rift Valley region plan to visit the late Raila Odinga’s Bondo home to pay their final respects. Speaking during a public gathering, Melly said the MPs intend to donate 80 bulls that will be slaughtered in honour of the late opposition leader.
According to Melly, the gesture is meant to demonstrate unity, respect, and recognition of Raila Odinga’s immense contribution to Kenya’s democracy and development. He emphasized that despite political differences, Raila remained a national figure who shaped Kenya’s political landscape for decades.
“Raila was not just a Luo leader; he was a national icon. As leaders from Rift Valley, we want to stand with his family and the entire nation during this moment of grief. The 80 bulls are a small token of appreciation for a man who gave his all for Kenya,” Melly said.
The planned visit, expected to take place ahead of Raila’s final burial rites, has been widely interpreted as a rare show of cross-regional solidarity. It also reflects how the passing of the veteran politician has temporarily bridged political divides across the country.
Residents in Bondo are already preparing to host thousands of mourners from across the nation, with security and logistical arrangements being stepped up. The donation from Rift Valley MPs is expected to add to the many contributions already pouring in as Kenyans come together to honour one of the most influential figures in the country’s history.
