The Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph have issued a strong statement after a disturbing video emerged showing one of their members physically assaulting a younger Sister at Theresa’s Convent in Asumbi.
The footage, which has sparked widespread outrage and sadness both within the Church and among the public, shows the senior Sister hitting and attacking her colleague in what many described as an unacceptable act in a religious setting.
In their statement, the Franciscan Sisters condemned the incident, stressing that such behavior is completely against their values of love, peace, care, and mutual respect.
“Any form of violence, abuse, or harsh conduct is against everything we believe in and stand for,” the statement read.
The attack has not only shocked fellow Sisters but also left students, neighbors, and the wider community deeply concerned about how such an incident could occur in a place meant to symbolize peace, safety, and holiness.
The congregation apologized to the public and assured that strong measures would be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur. They also confirmed that thorough investigations are underway, and the Sister involved will face disciplinary action in line with Church teachings and convent rules.
The incident has also sparked broader discussions about stress, mental health, and the importance of guidance in religious communities. The Sisters acknowledged these concerns and said they are carefully addressing them.
While condemning the act, the Franciscan Sisters emphasized that the incident does not represent their entire community. They reaffirmed their commitment to serving society through schools, hospitals, and social programs, calling on the public to continue supporting them in promoting peace, kindness, and respect.
The statement concluded with a plea for understanding, prayers, and cooperation as the congregation seeks healing and works to restore trust.to read more click here
