Saudi-Based Woman Devastated After Friend scams her KSh 200K Meant for Farming Project

Jedidah Wangechi, a Kenyan woman working in Saudi Arabia, has been left heartbroken after her trusted friend allegedly disappeared with KSh 200,000 she sent for a joint potato farming venture.

According to Wangechi, her friend David Waweru convinced her to invest in a potato farming project while she was still abroad. Trusting him, she sent money for land, seeds, and fertilisers. Waweru kept her updated at first, frequently requesting additional funds as the project progressed.

However, communication started to fade, and Wangechi became suspicious. She later sent her brother to inspect the farm, only to discover that Waweru had already harvested the crops and vanished with the proceeds.

Wangechi’s parents, who live in Nyeri, had to travel to Narok to seek answers, adding more financial strain to the already painful situation. When confronted, Waweru denied any wrongdoing and even falsely claimed he was in a relationship with Wangechi to deflect blame.

Despite reporting the matter to authorities, the family’s initial efforts for justice hit a dead end. Wangechi was later forced to escalate the issue to senior police officials.

Waweru admitted to receiving KSh 170,000 but blamed the failed project on poor-quality seeds. He promised to repay the money, but so far, no reimbursement has been made.

Wangechi says the experience has left her emotionally and financially drained. Her story serves as a warning to others about the dangers of blind trust, especially in financial matters. She remains hopeful that justice will prevail and that she’ll eventually recover both her money and peace of mind
