Protest in Embu town as residents demand Billy Mwangi’s release

Residents of Embu town staged protests on Friday over the disappearance of 24-year-old Billy Mwangi, who was abducted six days earlier on Saturday, December 21. Mwangi was reportedly seized from a barber shop in Embu by four masked, armed men traveling in a double-cabin pickup truck. The vehicle was last seen speeding off towards the Embu-Nairobi Highway.

The residents lit fires and blocked roads in the town, demanding Mwangi’s immediate release. Mwangi’s family revealed that they have been conducting extensive searches across the county since his abduction, but their efforts have been in vain. They remain in the dark about the motive behind his disappearance.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Mwangi may have been targeted due to a controversial post he shared on X (formerly Twitter). The post included an AI-generated image portraying President William Ruto in an unfavorable manner.

Mwangi’s case is not an isolated incident. He is among seven youths reportedly abducted this month following their critical social media posts about President Ruto and his government. The abductions have raised serious concerns among residents and human rights activists, who are calling for swift action to address the issue and ensure the safety of all citizens.
