Controversial former KNUN Secretary-General Seth Panyako has once again made headlines after revealing the scale of money he claims to have spent during his political campaigns in Malava constituency. Speaking candidly in an interview, Panyako disclosed that he spent around Ksh50 million on the campaign and personally remunerated each of his agents Ksh300,000.
“Nilitumia around Ksh50 Million kufanya campaign Malava. Nililipa kila agent wangu Ksh300k. Hizo ni pesa kidogo sana kwangu,” Panyako stated, downplaying the enormity of the expenditure and presenting himself as a wealthy political player.
Panyako went on to claim that his investments in the campaign were strategic, aimed at mobilizing supporters and ensuring maximum visibility across Malava. According to him, every agent was well-compensated to guarantee loyalty and efficiency, and he insisted that such spending was necessary to compete in Kenya’s competitive political landscape.
His remarks have sparked mixed reactions online. Some critics accuse him of flaunting wealth and raising concerns over the role of money in influencing politics, while supporters argue that Panyako’s transparency about campaign financing is refreshing in a system often clouded by secrecy.
Political analysts note that while campaign spending is normal, Panyako’s candid admission highlights the broader debate on election financing in Kenya, including calls for stricter regulation to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Panyako’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about wealth, influence, and political power, and are likely to continue generating conversation ahead of the next election cycle.
