Ngoni wa Thuita: From “Hawker” TO Kameme FM presenter

Ngoni wa Thuita popularly known as Ole Matope is mostly famous for his role in ‘Vitimbi’ where he made people laugh with his Maasai accent. He co-hosts with Gathaiya Dennis on Kameme FM Radio on the popular show ‘Kwigangara’ which airs between Monday to Friday from 1-4pm. He also worked at Milele FM breakfast show on 93.6fm,Tv comedian at Maisha Magic East, Tv comedian and Radio Presenter at KBC.

He is 40 yrs old. Married to Rose Njeri and they are blessed with two sons:

“With you, I became a better person. Without you, my life will never be complete. Thank you for choosing me as your better half. Happy anniversary! My life My wife my Njee 8 years and counting. I wanna grow old with you,” Ole Matope wrote sometimes back during their eighth wedding anniversary.

Studied at Technical University Of Kenya, Iyego Secondary and State House Primary. He started acting many years ago and used to do it besides doing construction work popularly known as ‘mtu wa mjengo’. Some of the buildings he was involved in constructing are in Mihang’o estate which is in Kayole.

Ngoni was a hawker and says;

“I paid for my diploma in journalism through hawking. I used to sell baby clothes and I was so good at it. I used to ask people the age of their babies and sell them the right sizes without seeing the child. I never got it wrong unless the child was obese.”

Peninah Nduta, who acted as Kanini in ‘Vitimbi’, used to visit Mihang’o where Ngoni wa Thuita was doing construction work and he approached her one day and convinced her that he could act by imitating his favourite comedians.

The next time that there was an audition she informed him. He went through the auditions and was successful. Mama Kayai suggested that he be called ‘Ole Matope’.

From being paid 1000 only, Ngoni is now well paid and drives a Black Range Rover British Machine.
