A seven-year-old girl has at last received justice, following her grandfather’s arrest and subsequent trial at the Kigumo Law Court for his egregious act of defilement. The court has sentenced the 60-year-old grandfather to a 30-year prison term for committing this heinous crime in Kambiti village, Murang’a South Sub County, last year.
The dire situation of the young girl came to public attention when her family appealed to both authorities and compassionate individuals for assistance in securing medical treatment. The child had developed severe health complications as a result of the traumatic incident. Additionally, the family expressed their fear of the threats posed by the assailant, who had been released on bail pending trial.
The girl’s plight garnered the attention of Mary Wamaua, the Member of Parliament representing the area. She pledged to ensure the child received the necessary medical care while urging the Kigumo law court and the state prosecution to expedite the case, emphasizing the importance of delivering justice to safeguard the well-being of the minor and her immediate family.
Following the sentencing of the perpetrator, Josphat Muli, Wamaua commended the criminal justice system for ultimately delivering justice despite significant challenges. She remarked, “The fact that justice has been served for the innocent girl against all odds demonstrates the considerable goodwill within our criminal justice system in protecting vulnerable children in our society, who deserve secure environments in which to pursue their dreams.”
She emphatically stated, “Individuals who commit such heinous crimes have no place in our society; they belong behind bars.”
