Chege Majuice has sparked debate after making bold remarks on the state of Kenya’s political opposition and the dynamics surrounding President William Ruto.
According to him, the opposition risks being weakened if it relies on leaders such as Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua or Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. In his own words, he argued that if either of them were fronted as the face of opposition politics, Ruto would “karanga” them with ease, implying that the President would outsmart and easily neutralize their influence.
Chege further alleged that Gachagua is attempting to intimidate former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i simply because he hails from the Kisii community. He went on to suggest that the only political figure within the opposition who truly unsettles Ruto is Matiang’i. In his reasoning, Matiang’i stands out as the only one capable of defending his track record in government with confidence and firmness, making him a formidable opponent.
These sentiments underscore the ongoing power struggles and succession debates in Kenya’s political space. They also reflect the growing speculation on who among opposition leaders has the strength and credibility to effectively challenge President Ruto ahead of future elections.
