The Kenyan Revenue Authority has taken significant interest after Dancehall performer KRG the Don allegedly flaunted large sums of money online. The Mambo Imechemka hitmaker posted a video on Tuesday night, showing him stashing cash into a backpack.
In the video, he reportedly turned down a job offer from a betting organization, stating that he would only sign a contract if they paid him Sh100 million, demanding more than their initial offer of Sh90 million. Throughout the video, he can be seen putting the money into the bag while speaking.
The video attracted attention from social media users, including the Kenya Revenue Authority, which referenced biblical texts to discuss the importance of paying taxes, saying, “Give to Caesar what belongs to him (Mark 12:17. Ifikie KRG)…’ before humorously adding, ‘Mambo imechemka.’
MCA Kileleshwa, Robert Alai, also criticized the way the artist displayed the money online, suggesting that KRG’s extravagant lifestyle might be a facade, and the money he flaunted could be borrowed.
Alinur Mohamed, a city politician, joined the conversation and accused KRG of engaging in fraudulent activities with online payment systems, while many Kenyans struggle to make ends meet.
KRG responded swiftly with humor, suggesting that if he had really been struggling, he would have organized protests instead.
Overall, the video sparked discussion and raised concerns about the source of KRG’s wealth and the importance of responsible financial behavior, especially in challenging economic times.
