A bold political voice has sparked fresh debate in Kenya’s political circles after claiming that the Luo community never formally chose Raila Amolo Odinga as their leader. The leader, whose remarks have ignited heated discussions both online and offline, said Raila’s dominance in Luo politics was not through election or consultation but by default.
“Luos never sat and elected Raila as their leader. He just came from nowhere and took over,” he said, noting that it was time for the community to embrace new leadership and a more inclusive national outlook.
The politician further argued that the community’s current position in government does not guarantee automatic benefits. “Raila left us in the government. It is a government that we never elected, and we can’t get everything we want,” he stated.
He added that true political power comes from forming alliances and participating in government formation, not just supporting others. “When we form our own government or a coalition with others, that’s when we will be in the cooking area,” he emphasized.
The leader reaffirmed his loyalty to his political party, promising to stand firm and not let the movement down. “I will not let the party down. We are here not to unite the Luo but to unite Kenya,” he declared, urging his supporters to look beyond tribal lines and push for national unity.
His remarks come at a time when political realignments are reshaping Kenya’s landscape, with growing calls for fresh leadership in traditional strongholds. While some have applauded the statement as courageous and progressive, others view it as an attack on Raila’s long-standing influence and legacy in the Luo community.
As Kenya heads toward another political transition, such statements signal a possible generational shift — one that challenges old loyalties and calls for a new era of inclusive national politics.
