Kenyans to pay toll fees on all ‘critical’ roads if KeNHA’s policy is approved in the Country

If approved, a new policy by the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) will introduce toll fees on major roads. The Road Tolling Policy is currently under review, with KeNHA promising extensive public engagement to ensure that the perspectives of all stakeholders are considered.

KeNHA has identified several key roads that could be subject to tolls if the policy is implemented. These roads include the Nairobi Southern Bypass, the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway, Thika Superhighway, Kenol-Sagana-Marua Road, Mombasa Southern Bypass, and Dongo Kundu Bypass, among others.

KeNHA has stated, “We value the ongoing dialogue regarding the Road Tolling Policy development. KeNHA is dedicated to maintaining transparency and inclusivity throughout this process and will continue to engage with the public at each stage.”

Currently, the only tolled road in Kenya is the 27-kilometre Nairobi Expressway, which was developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Motorists pay between KSh120 and KSh360 to use this road, which connects Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with Westlands in Nairobi.
