A middle-aged housekeeper has been sentenced to five years in prison or fined KSh15 million after being found guilty of child pornography. Sharon Wabwile, convicted in all three counts, received the verdict from Principal Magistrate Jackie Kibosia at the Milimani Children’s Court.
During the sentencing hearing, the prosecution, led by Victor Preston Owuor, highlighted the emotional trauma suffered by the victim and requested compensation under Section 26 of the Victim Protection Act.
The court learned that Wabwile, employed as a housekeeper at the time of the offense, took several inappropriate pictures of the seven-year-old victim while she was asleep, violating her duty to protect the child. Additionally, Wabwile sent these explicit images of the minor to her boyfriend upon his request.
As part of the sentence, Wabwile was ordered to pay KSh2 million in restitution to the victim, with priority given to this compensation over the fine. If she fails to pay, the victim can claim the amount through the Victim Protection Trust Fund.
Magistrate Kibosia further mandated the removal of the images from all social, print, and visual media platforms. Additionally, the phone used to capture the images was to be forfeited to the Communication Authority of Kenya.
