In an interview with Parents Magazine, former State House spokesperson Kanze Dena shared a surprising and deeply personal story from her past. Reflecting on a pivotal moment in her life, Dena recounted how following a friend’s misguided advice led to an experience she once regretted but ultimately became a turning point.
After graduating from high school, Kanze Dena started working as a waitress in a Nairobi restaurant. Adjusting to the demands of a new job and life in the bustling city, she encountered what she now describes as the worst advice she ever received.
“One evening, after a long shift, we got stuck in heavy traffic,” Dena recalled. “My friend suggested we wait it out at a nearby club.” What seemed like an innocent idea quickly spiraled into an unexpected event. “I had my first Pilsner, then the second, and the third. Before we knew it, we had finished the whole crate!” she revealed.
Dena admitted that she was initially drawn to the beer because of its captivating advertisements on local TV stations. That night marked her first significant encounter with alcohol, a moment that could have led her down a dangerous path. However, instead of leading to her downfall, the experience became a wake-up call. “That night changed my life forever, but not in the way you might think,” she explained. “It was a turning point that led me to seek salvation. God redeemed me. Thank you, Jesus,” she added, emphasizing how her faith helped her turn her life around. “I don’t drink anymore,” she concluded.
Throughout her life, Kanze Dena has faced numerous challenges and hardships. Before becoming a renowned news anchor on Citizen TV, she worked various odd jobs, from peeling potatoes at her grandfather’s hotel in Mombasa to washing dishes and eventually serving as a waitress. Each of these experiences, including that fateful night, has shaped her journey to success and faith.
