Popular radio personality Jacque Nyaminde, better known as Wilbroda, has opened up about one of the most traumatic chapters of her life as a mother. Speaking on a recent podcast, she recalled the moment she discovered that her nanny had been secretly breastfeeding her young son.READ MORE
The revelation came unexpectedly while Wilbroda was away in Mombasa. She received an anonymous phone call from a woman warning her about the disturbing behaviour of her house help. At first, she brushed it off, but her child’s unusual closeness to the nanny made her uneasy.
“I took the first flight home,” she said, adding that she quietly observed without raising suspicion. That same evening, her father called her with even more shocking news the nanny was allegedly HIV positive.
The possibility left Wilbroda shattered. Her father immediately sought medical advice, and a doctor explained that while risks existed, the only way forward was to take the child for testing. Overwhelmed with fear, she rushed her son to the hospital with the help of her sister.
“I cried and prayed the whole night. It was the longest night of my life,” she confessed. Fortunately, the test results confirmed that her son was safe.
Despite her nanny being a young mother with dependents of her own, Wilbroda made the difficult choice to let her go the next day. She admitted it was heartbreaking, as she usually keeps her domestic workers for years and builds strong bonds with them.
Years later, her son occasionally asks her to retell the story a painful reminder of a mother’s worst fears and the strength it takes to protect a child.
