Her adept professionalism within the media realm, coupled with her captivating beauty, grace, and an innate ability to connect with viewers, has endeared her to a wide audience.
Educational Background
Victoria’s educational journey began with primary school in Kenya before she moved to the USA, where she completed her studies. She attended Atlantic City High School in Atlanta and later pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Family Ties
Victoria Rubadiri hails from a diverse family background. Her sister, Mabel Rubadiri, shares in her unique life story. The family’s relocation to the USA when Victoria was ten proved challenging, leading her to grapple with a sense of isolation in her new environment.
Parental Heritage
Victoria’s rich cultural heritage is a tapestry of Kalenjin, Maasai, Malawian, Kikuyu, and Scottish roots. The origins of her name trace back to her great-grandfather’s conversion to Islam after being taken as a slave in Oman, a name that has transcended generations.
In Victoria’s own words: “My grandfather was taken as a slave to Oman. When he came back to Malawi, he had converted to Islam. So, his fellow villagers wondered what he was saying because he was praying in Arabic. They imitated him, made fun of him, and said ‘aaaam rubadiri am rubadiri.’ So, he liked it and noted that he would take up that name.”
Her grandfather, James David Rubadiri, earned acclaim as the vice-chancellor of Malawi University and a renowned Malawian poet.
Marriage and Motherhood
Victoria Rubadiri, at present, is not married. Her journey to motherhood began during her university years, facing challenges when the baby’s father initially denied responsibility. Despite considering abortion, Victoria’s family’s opposition led her to keep the child. She later reconciled with the father, who resides in New Jersey. In celebrating her daughter’s university journey, Victoria expressed profound pride and love.
Career Path
Victoria Rubadiri’s foray into the media began at a tender age, with her first voice-over at three years old. Her professional journey took shape in 2007 as an intern and Assignment Desk Editor at WMGM-NBC 40 TV, evolving into a field news reporter.
Her career saw diverse roles, including serving as a personal assistant for Angela Crockett, before returning to Kenya in 2010 to pursue journalism. Her tenure at Capital FM and NTV showcased her journalistic prowess, with Larry Madowo as her initial co-presenter. Despite rumors of a romantic connection, Victoria and Larry dismissed the speculations.
Launching her show, Victoria Lounge, further solidified her impact, sharing inspiring stories of resilience. Citizen TV eventually welcomed her into their fold, pairing her with Jeff Koinange for the Sunday Live prime time news. Victoria also independently hosts the Saturday news bulletin, moderating high-profile discussions on regional and continental matters, such as the East African Business Summit in Arusha.
In admiration of her co-host, Jeff Koinange, Victoria noted, “He has incredible journalistic skills. His work has spoken for him over the years. So for me to be able to work with him is just so surreal. I couldn’t respect him anymore.”
