Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga left mourners in stitches during the national memorial service of his late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, after humorously introducing his two wives in grand style.
After delivering an emotional tribute to Raila, Oburu decided to lighten the somber mood with a dose of humor, joking that he had to recognize both of his wives publicly to avoid “domestic consequences.”
“If I don’t introduce them, they might get jealous and refuse to give me food,” he quipped, sending the packed Nyayo Stadium into waves of laughter.
The 81-year-old senator first called up his first wife, Dr. Ann Ayoo Oburu, a respected paediatrician. “This is the lady who took me out of boyhood,” he said warmly, earning cheers and applause from the crowd.
He then introduced his second wife, Judith Oburu, an accountant with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). “She is Judith Oburu. I thought that at my age, I didn’t want Ann to scratch me or massage me, so I brought her a helper,” he added jokingly, holding Judith’s hand high to the delight of the audience.
The lighthearted moment instantly became one of the highlights of the memorial service, with many Kenyans taking to social media to hail Oburu as a “true African man” proud of his polygamous life and unafraid to show it publicly.
