Hii ni Jaba:Police doubt MP Koimburi’s story, claim no evidence of abduction

The alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi took a new twist on Tuesday, with conflicting accounts from the police and the lawmaker’s family raising more questions than answers about what transpired before, during, and after the incident.

Mr. Koimburi, known for his vocal criticism of President William Ruto and close ties to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was reportedly assaulted and forced into a Subaru vehicle outside Full Gospel Church in Mugutha, Kiambu County, on Sunday. The individuals behind the act remain unidentified.

The dramatic incident unfolded just two days after the MP narrowly escaped police arrest on Friday over allegations of land fraud. He was later discovered dumped and badly injured in a coffee plantation within Juja.

“On Friday, May 23, 2025, the MP, aware of a looming arrest, fled the scene on a motorcycle alongside his private security. His official vehicle, which was only being driven by his chauffeur, was intercepted, and the driver recorded a statement,” said Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja during a Tuesday briefing.

Despite launching investigations, Mr. Kanja admitted that police had yet to identify the owner of the Subaru used in the alleged kidnapping, or those responsible for abducting the MP.

“The vehicle is central to our ongoing investigation. We will inform the public as soon as more details become available,” he stated.

However, allies of Mr. Gachagua and members of Koimburi’s family claim that police were directly involved in both the abduction and subsequent torture—a charge the police boss appeared to reject.

Preliminary findings, according to Mr. Kanja, do not support the narrative of an abduction. He also pointed to what he described as a lack of cooperation from the MP’s family, which, he said, was hampering the investigation.
