Enock Sikolia, a renowned Kenyan journalist known for his role as the Kenyan Historian on YouTube, recently revealed the reason behind his unexpected departure from Royal Media Services (RMS) at the peak of his career.
Sikolia’s decision to leave Citizen TV, where he had spent two successful years, took many by surprise. He made this choice during the coronavirus pandemic, choosing a crisp morning to submit his resignation letter directly to the HR office at RMS.
The HR team was taken aback and sought to understand the reasons behind his sudden departure. Given Sikolia’s reputation as one of the top journalists in the company, with a strong team and a competitive salary, his decision was met with concern. However, Sikolia was resolute in his choice, believing it was time for him to pursue new opportunities and focus on his own ventures.
This bold move shocked many of his colleagues, as Sikolia opted to start anew with only his extensive experience in journalism. He launched his YouTube channel, “The Kenyan Historian,” and embarked on a new journey from scratch.
Sikolia recounted feeling disheartened when some trusted contacts stopped responding to him after learning of his departure from Citizen TV. These were individuals he had previously interviewed and supported through his platform.
On the brighter side, a few friends and prominent politicians, including Murkomen and Babu Owino, extended their support. They appeared on his new channel, helping him gain traction and establish “The Kenyan Historian” as a significant brand in Kenya. Sikolia remains grateful for their support and maintains a positive relationship with his former colleagues at Citizen TV, with no hard feelings towards the organization.
