Embattled Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has hit back at Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who recently questioned both his academic qualifications and his management of Kenya’s health sector.
Speaking on Sunday, September 7, Khalwale urged President William Ruto to intervene in the implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA), accusing Duale of mismanaging the reforms.
“SHA is not working. Kenyans don’t know what degree CS Duale has. He is playing politics with SHA and NHIF,” Khalwale claimed.
The senator, a medical doctor by profession, also accused Duale of politicizing the SHA and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), insisting that the sector is plagued by inefficiency.
In a swift response, Duale defended both his academic record and his leadership, stressing that his qualifications are on record in Parliament.
“My academic papers are within the precinct of Parliament and were submitted to the vetting committee of the National Assembly twice. Discuss substance, not personalities,” Duale said.
This war of words comes barely a week after Khalwale called on President Ruto to sack Duale alongside SHA chairperson Abdi Mohamed, alleging corruption and irregular payments to ghost health facilities.
“If the President ever wanted his commitment to fight corruption to be believable, this is the perfect opportunity. He must immediately dismiss these two suspected fraudsters,” Khalwale declared.
