Edna Owour Otieno, the alleged mother of the late world record holder and Kenyan athlete, Kiptum, recently spoke candidly about her relationship with him. Following Kiptum’s passing, Edna was one of the women who publicly revealed that she had a child with the athlete. However, this revelation led to online backlash, causing her to trend on various platforms.
In an interview with Eldoret Online TV, Edna shared that her relationship with Kiptum began in 2019, although they initially met in 2018 when he was not yet a well-known figure. At the time, she was a third-year student in a secondary school. Their bond developed during the following years, eventually leading to Edna becoming pregnant in 2021, after completing her high school education in 2020.
Despite the pregnancy affecting her education, Edna expressed confidence as Kiptum had assured her of his commitment to taking care of both her and their child. True to his word, Kiptum provided support after the birth of their daughter. Edna mentioned spending considerable time with him, to the extent that Kiptum’s wife would contact her if she couldn’t reach him, seeking information about his whereabouts.
Edna disclosed that Kiptum’s wife and family were aware of her and the child but chose to overlook their existence. Frustrated by this neglect, she decided to take legal action, and the case is currently ongoing.
Furthermore, Edna emphasized her readiness for a DNA test, mentioning that she still possesses clothing given to her by Kiptum. At 22 years old, she urged Kiptum’s family to acknowledge her and their daughter, asserting their right to be included among the beneficiaries. Edna awaits a resolution and justice in the matter.
