EACC sells five properties linked to former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, raising a total of KSh69,705,000

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made significant progress in recovering public assets linked to former Migori Governor Okoth Obado. In a recent update, the commission confirmed that it successfully sold five properties associated with the former county boss, generating a total of KSh69,705,000.

The properties, located in Nairobi’s upscale and middle-class estates, were auctioned following court orders authorizing the EACC to recover wealth suspected to have been acquired through corruption and abuse of office.

Among the sold properties were a three-bedroom apartment at Riara valued at KSh14 million, a three-bedroom apartment at Greenspan Estate worth KSh6.95 million, a two-bedroom apartment at Greenspan Estate valued at KSh6.75 million, a Greenspan Maisonette No. 279 sold for KSh11 million, and a Loresho Ridge Estate townhouse that fetched KSh31 million.

According to EACC, the successful sale marks an important step in ensuring that proceeds of corruption are traced, seized, and returned to benefit the public. The commission emphasized its ongoing efforts to pursue other properties and assets allegedly acquired through similar means.

The anti-graft agency further announced that additional properties linked to Obado — particularly those located in Kisumu and Migori counties — are scheduled for public auction on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Members of the public have been invited to participate in the sale.

Obado, who served as Migori Governor for two terms, has faced multiple investigations and court cases over alleged corruption, including claims of embezzling millions of shillings in public funds during his tenure.

The EACC’s latest move signals the government’s continued push to recover stolen assets and hold public officials accountable. It also serves as a reminder of the agency’s determination to ensure that public wealth benefits the citizens, not individuals entrusted to serve them.
