Primary School in Vihiga Shut Down After Human Remains are Found in pit latrine

Evojo Primary School in Sabatia, Vihiga County, has been closed indefinitely after human remains were discovered in one of the school’s toilets.

Sabatia Subcounty Police Commander Peter Mbua confirmed the closure, stating that the nature of the incident was highly disturbing.

Deputy Head Teacher Oscar Changilwa revealed that both learners and teachers were left deeply shaken by the discovery. “The pupils are traumatised, especially because they had just buried their head teacher. The staff is also emotionally affected,” he said.

Changilwa explained that the school had reopened for remedial learning when, at around 7 a.m., a pupil reported seeing what appeared to be a human head inside one of the toilets.

Teachers immediately inspected the area and confirmed the finding. They promptly alerted authorities, including the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

All the school’s toilets were later demolished to allow for a thorough investigation and to search for any additional remains.

“It is heartbreaking that such a horrible act happened in a learning environment,” Changilwa stated, strongly condemning the incident.
