On the afternoon of Sunday, 27th, July 2025, Faith Kemunto Obino left her family’s home in Maosi village, Nyamira county and went to meet with her boyfriend Gideon Makori, whom she had been seeing romantically for some years since she completed secondary school.
Before she stepped out to meet with the Makori whom she thought would later marry her, she told her family that she would be safe, because the man whom she was going to meet, was not new to her and that she had known him since their secondary social days..
However, her mother, Grace Nyaitondi, was totally against the meeting between Faith Kemunto and her boyfriend Makori, and for that reason, she ropertedly tried to pursuade her daughter not to go for the date.
Despite the warning from her mum, Faith Kemunto still left home and went to meet with her lover.
Things took a dramatic turn after she failed to return home for several days and that prompted her family members to file a missing person report, at Nyamusi Police Station in Nyamira. At the time they were filing the report, her phone remained switched off and that only left those who knew her in a climate of fear.
As the search of Faith Kemunto was intensified by the police officers and her family members, the situation again took a more disturbing turn, when her brother got a text from Faith Kemunto’s number, which probably was sent by her boyfriend, who demanded Sh500.
Kemunto’s brother however refused to send the money that was being requested, before another message followed claiming that Faith Kemunto had already been killed and her lifeless body had been buried. To add salt onto the sour wound, the message even revealed the grave’s location.
With the help of police, the family was able to retrieve Kemunto’s body which had been dumped in a quarry, but are still searching for Gideon Makori whose whereabouts is still unknown.
