Drama unfolded in Kocholia, Teso North Sub-County, Busia County, after a man who was caught trying to steal a bottle of beer was punished in an unusual way by amused bar patrons.
According to witnesses, the man was nabbed by security guards while attempting to steal a customer’s drink. The owner had reportedly stepped out to the washroom, leaving his bottle on the table.
“The guards caught him red-handed stealing a customer’s beer. He began to cry and pleaded for forgiveness, saying he hadn’t tasted alcohol for a whole week,” said one witness.
Moved by his confession, the customers decided to teach him a lesson in a rather strange way — they contributed money and bought him a full crate of beer, instructing him to drink it all.
What started as a tense scene quickly turned into laughter as the man struggled to finish the 24 bottles amid cheers from the crowd.
Bar management later urged the man to seek help for his addiction, warning him that he might not be so lucky next time.
The bizarre incident has since sparked mixed reactions among locals, with many calling it both a funny and cautionary tale about the dangers of alcohol addiction.
