Nairobi Member of Parliament Babu Owino has demanded that President William Ruto appear in court to face legal proceedings related to the case involving political activist Nuru Okanga. Owino, who is representing Okanga, expressed frustration after the President reportedly failed to show up for the scheduled hearing.
“I want to cross-examine President Ruto. He should stop joking with my client’s rights and avail himself in court,” Babu Owino said, highlighting the legal obligations of all parties in the matter. He added that his client had traveled all the way from Mumias to Nairobi only to discover that the main complainant was absent, raising concerns about delays in the judicial process.
The MP’s remarks underscore the seriousness of the case and the expectation that even high-profile political figures must respect court proceedings. Analysts note that delays and absenteeism in such high-profile matters can fuel public debate on accountability, justice, and the rule of law.
As the legal battle unfolds, all eyes remain on whether President Ruto will respond to the summons and appear before the court, setting the stage for a potentially landmark cross-examination.
