“I heard the former Sec General of ODM Senator Edwin Sifuna chest thumping the other day how together with his team are going to conquer Migori in their next rally of Linda Wananchi.

Political activist Gaucho Calvince has stirred debate following his remarks about the planned visit by Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Wananchi team to Migori County.

In his statement, Gaucho said he welcomes Sifuna and his team and even joked that he is ready to “buy them milk to quench themselves.” However, he also referenced past visits by prominent leaders, claiming they experienced political hostility in Migori. Among those he mentioned were former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi, and Anyang’ Nyong’o, suggesting that the region has a history of intense political confrontations.

At the same time, Gaucho expressed solidarity with leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement, including Oburu Oginga, Gladys Wanga, and Junet Mohamed, praising them for what he described as defending party interests on the ground.

While parts of his message appeared welcoming, references to “paramilitary politics” and past tense encounters point to the underlying political tension in the area. Such rhetoric, even when framed as political banter, can heighten anxieties ahead of rallies and public gatherings.

As political competition intensifies, leaders and supporters alike are being urged to prioritize peaceful engagement, respect democratic freedoms, and focus on policy-based debates rather than confrontational messaging.
