Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is facing backlash after the United States responded critically to his recent tweets, dismissing his apology as insufficient.
According to US officials, Muhoozi has crossed a “red line,” prompting Washington to reevaluate its security partnership with Uganda. This includes aspects such as military cooperation and sanctions considerations.
“The president’s son, and likely successor, cannot simply delete tweets and issue hollow apologies,” a US statement reportedly said. “The United States will not tolerate this level of instability and recklessness when American personnel, US interests, and innocent lives in the region are at stake.”
The development underscores the sensitivity of regional security and the importance the US places on stability in East Africa. Analysts say the incident could have long-term implications for Uganda’s relations with Washington and may affect ongoing military collaboration.
Observers note that Muhoozi, a senior military figure and a likely future political leader, must tread carefully to avoid escalating tensions with key international partners.
