President William Ruto has stirred fresh debate after boldly declaring that Kenyans are fortunate to have him as their Head of State, crediting his administration with preventing the country from falling into a debt crisis.
Speaking during an address, Ruto claimed that his government’s strict measures to manage and repay national debt saved Kenya from defaulting, a situation he said has already affected several African nations.
“Kenyans are very lucky to have me as their president,” Ruto said. “Were it not for the efforts I made to repay our debts, by now Kenya would have defaulted like some other African countries, and that would have destroyed our economy completely.”
The President urged citizens to appreciate the weight of responsibilities on his office, adding that leadership requires both sacrifice and prayer.
“Sometimes pray for me,” he added, emphasizing the pressure of steering the country through economic challenges.
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions across the country, with supporters praising his confidence and commitment, while critics argue that such statements downplay the hardships Kenyans continue to face.
