Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of misleading Kenyans about the true value of the recently announced Ikolomani gold deposits.
Speaking during a public address, Gachagua claimed that the government’s figure of KSh 643 billion is a deliberate understatement meant to conceal the actual value from the public.
“Ruto anadanganya ati dhahabu ya Ikolomani ni ya KSh 643 billion,” Gachagua said. “Wakati ukweli ni karibu trillion 6. Just imagine—wanataka kuiba karibu trillion 5 ya mali ya Wakenya.”
Gachagua further alleged that the foreign company contracted to undertake the mining operations has direct links to President Ruto.
“Hiyo kampuni Ruto ameleta kuchimba, ako na shares ndani,” he claimed, accusing the head of state of positioning himself to personally benefit from the mineral project.
He also took aim at Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, dismissing them as unreliable leaders allegedly helping Ruto exploit the Western region.
“Mudavadi na Wetangula ni watu bure kabisa, wanasaidiana na Kasongo kuibia watu wa Western,” Gachagua insisted.
The remarks have intensified political tension around the Ikolomani gold discovery, with supporters of Ruto dismissing the allegations as baseless while Gachagua’s allies frame his statement as a whistleblower’s warning.
