Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago has stirred debate with a bold declaration targeting the Luhya political bloc. Speaking during a public event, Mandago dismissed the influence of former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, insisting the community is backing the wrong leaders.
“Nyinyi Waluhya, kama matumaini yenyu mumeweka kwa Eugene Wamalwa na Natembeya mumepotea. Mimi nitakuwa Rais mbele yao,” Mandago said, drawing mixed reactions from the crowd.
Mandago argued that the two leaders lack the political strength and national appeal required to mount a serious presidential bid. He claimed that his own political trajectory places him ahead of them in the national race.
His remarks come at a time when Western Kenya is experiencing heightened political competition, with multiple leaders positioning themselves for future influence within the national landscape.
Supporters saw Mandago’s comments as confidence from a seasoned politician, while critics dismissed them as unnecessary provocation aimed at undermining Luhya leadership unity.
As political temperatures continue to rise, Mandago’s statement is expected to spark further reactions across Western Kenya, where debates on succession politics and regional kingpins remain highly charged.
