“Toka Hapa Hunitishi!” Drama as CS Duale Almost Slapped in Parliament — Police Step In
A dramatic scene unfolded in Parliament after a heated exchange between Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi nearly turned physical.
The altercation erupted during a parliamentary committee session when MP Kibagendi accused Duale of corruption and mismanagement related to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Witnesses say Kibagendi furiously confronted the CS, pointing fingers and shouting, “Toka hapa hunitishi!” (“Get away, you don’t scare me!”). The confrontation quickly escalated as the MP appeared ready to strike Duale before parliamentary security intervened.
Police officers were forced to step in and escort the legislator out of the chamber as tempers flared among other members present.
Duale, visibly angered, accused Kibagendi of having a conflict of interest, alleging that he owned health facilities under investigation for fraudulent claims. He vowed to petition the Speaker to remove the MP from the Health Committee.
In response, Kibagendi denied owning any medical facility, insisting that Duale was trying to divert attention from allegations of graft and mismanagement at the Ministry.
The incident forced the temporary suspension of the session as calm was restored in the House.
The confrontation has sparked mixed reactions across the political divide, with many Kenyans expressing concern over the growing hostility and lack of decorum among top government officials.
Observers now say the ugly exchange reflects the mounting tension between Parliament and the Executive over accountability and the management of key public institutions.
