Jalang’o life Journey: From a poor Fisherman in Homa Bay to Lang’ata MP

Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has one of the most remarkable success stories in Kenya—rising from the shores of Lake Victoria as a fisherman to becoming a celebrated comedian, media personality, and eventually Lang’ata MP.

Born and raised in Homa Bay, Jalang’o grew up in a humble background. His father was a fisherman, and to help support the family, he also joined in the trade. But even as he cast his nets on Lake Victoria, Jalang’o nurtured a dream far beyond fishing—he had a burning passion for comedy and entertainment.

After moving to Nairobi, Jalang’o began performing in small comedy clubs. His sharp wit, unique storytelling, and relatable humor quickly won him a following. His big break came when he landed a job as a radio presenter, where his talent shone and propelled him into national fame. With time, Jalang’o became a household name in Kenyan comedy and broadcasting, earning awards and recognition along the way.

Never one to shy away from challenges, Jalang’o ventured into politics in 2017, contesting for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat. Although unsuccessful at first, he did not give up. He returned stronger in the 2022 elections and successfully clinched the seat, cementing his place not only in entertainment but also in leadership.

Jalang’o’s story is a powerful reminder that humble beginnings do not define one’s destiny. From fishing in Homa Bay to leading in Parliament, he continues to inspire millions of young Kenyans to believe in their dreams and work relentlessly toward them.
