Suspect behind stabbing to death of GSU officer in Kisumu County arrested

Police in Kisumu County have apprehended a suspect linked to the fatal stabbing of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer in Manyatta slums. Ronald Liwind was captured by a multi-agency team at his rural home in Asembo, Siaya County, where he had sought refuge.

During the arrest, officers discovered various crude weapons and jungle uniforms at Liwind’s residence. He is currently detained at Kondele Police Station. Authorities are also actively searching for Liwind’s alleged accomplice, David Nyeuse, who remains at large.

Investigators believe that Liwind fatally stabbed Constable Calvince Ouma Omondi, 24, during an altercation of unclear origins. Reports indicate that Omondi was escorting a female friend home in Manyatta when he was asked by one of his friends to stop the vehicle for a brief restroom break. While the friend was away, unknown assailants attacked the scene, prompting Omondi to intervene.

In the ensuing confrontation, Omondi was stabbed in the chest and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. His friend sustained serious stab wounds and is now hospitalized in stable condition. Omondi, who was attached to the Turkwel GSU camp in Turkana County, was on leave and had returned home.
