Kenyans woke to the pitiful news of the demise of Marathoner Samuel Wanjiru On May 16, 2011, .
Wanjiru, who was 24 years of age, succumbed from injuries after he fell from the balcony at his home in Nyahururu.In a police report it is claimed wanjiru committed suicide.
Following his demise, government of former President Mwai Kibaki vowed to investigate the demise of the marathoner however it has been 10years and nothing has been fruitful.
On Wednesday this week, an investigative report about the case uncovered that Wanjiru didn’t endhis own life and it is his relatives who had planned for his killing.
In an interview with one of the local dailies, Wanjiru’s long-term friend, who is now the current speaker of Nyandarua County, Ndegwa Wahome, admitted that even though Samuel Wanjiru lived a reckless life, his journey to the grave started when he tried to marry a second wife.
Wahome said days before Wanjiru kicked the bucket, he called him requesting for advice, following serious pressing factor from his relatives who condemned him for attempting to wed a second wife.
The long distance runner, famously known as Sammy, was most associated with his triumph at the 2008 Olympic Games where he became Kenya’s first Olympic champion in the Marathon.
