“Wacha kutumia Kanisa Kujificha, tunakujua” Kalonzo Accuses Ruto Government of Using Church to Hide Corruption

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sharply criticized President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of reducing the church to a political stage rather than preserving it as a sacred place of worship.

In a strongly worded statement posted on X on Sunday, September 21, 2025, Kalonzo accused the government of exploiting religious platforms to mask corruption and failures in governance.

“The church should be a place of truth and hope. Yet far too often, the Ruto regime dishonours this sacred pulpit in their attempt to cleanse their corruption and mismanagement of our country’s internal and external affairs,” Kalonzo wrote.

His remarks come amid growing public unease over the frequent use of church services by politicians to issue policy statements, attack rivals, and build political mileage. Religious leaders themselves have repeatedly warned that the practice undermines the church’s spiritual role and risks politicizing the pulpit.

Kalonzo insisted that the government should protect the sanctity of the church by steering clear of political theatrics within places of worship. He urged leaders to direct their energy towards addressing the real problems affecting Kenyans, such as rising unemployment, soaring living costs, and persistent corruption scandals.

According to the Wiper leader, using the church to “sanitise” political failures not only erodes public trust in religious institutions but also weakens the moral fabric of the nation.

He concluded by emphasizing that Kenyans deserve a government that is accountable, transparent, and respectful of the values the church stands for, rather than one that hides its shortcomings behind the pulpit.
