The hotel was acquired by the Gachagua family through a lease arrangement with the Kenya Wildlife Service. His sons, Kelvin and Keith, are currently overseeing its operations and renovation. After a period of closure, the family has invested in refurbishing the lodge to attract both domestic and international tourists once again.
2. Outspan Hotel – A Heritage Acquisition
The Outspan Hotel in Nyeri is another gem in the family’s portfolio. Built in the 1920s, the hotel is historically linked to Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the global scouting movement, who lived in a cottage within the compound.
In November 2023, Gachagua’s sons acquired the property under their company, Crystal Kenya Limited, at an estimated cost of KSh535 million. The acquisition stirred public interest due to the hotel’s cultural significance as well as the family’s increasing investments in Nyeri County.

Located in Nairobi, Olive Gardens Hotel is a three-star establishment offering accommodation, dining, and conference facilities. With over 60 rooms, modern amenities, and proximity to the city center, the hotel has long catered to business travelers and tourists.
The property was previously owned by Gachagua’s late brother, whose estate eventually sold the hotel. Proceeds from the sale were shared among family members, with Gachagua confirming he received a portion. Though not directly managed by him now, the hotel still reflects the family’s footprint in Nairobi’s hospitality sector.
4. Vipingo Beach Resort – Luxury on the Coast
Away from central Kenya, the family also has interests at the coast through Vipingo Beach Resort in Kilifi County. This luxury property features an infinity pool, seaside views, and premium accommodation for holidaymakers.
The resort, situated close to Watamu Marine Park, expands the family’s investments into coastal tourism, tapping into both local and international clientele seeking beachside luxury.
