Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino have shown a united front as the Linda Mwananchi movement prepares for its next major rally in Nairobi.
The three leaders met in Nairobi on Friday, September 4, and shared photos of their meeting as preparations for the September 13 rally gathered pace.
Sifuna posted photos of the three leaders having lunch together, while Orengo also shared images from the meeting.
The meeting came two days after Sifuna announced that the Linda Mwananchi Tour would return to Nairobi, urging supporters to prepare for the next phase of the political mobilisation campaign.
Leaders Push for Opposition Unity
The Nairobi rally will be the movement’s return to the capital after an earlier gathering in the city in March.
The Linda Mwananchi tour began in Busia in February and has since visited several counties, including Kajiado, Kakamega, Narok, Mombasa, Nakuru, Vihiga, Kisumu, Machakos, Thika, Kisii, Taita Taveta, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Homa Bay and Meru.
The movement has used the rallies to mobilise supporters and raise issues such as governance, the cost of living and the rule of law.
The latest meeting between Sifuna, Orengo and Babu comes as opposition leaders continue discussions about how they can work together ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Orengo Backs Competition
Orengo has expressed interest in the presidency but has also said the opposition should eventually agree on one candidate to face the ruling side.
He has defended competition among opposition leaders, pointing to the 2007 ODM Pentagon as an example of senior politicians competing before settling on a political direction.
Babu Owino has meanwhile publicly backed Sifuna and called for opposition leaders to work together.
He has previously urged leaders including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i and Orengo to unite ahead of the 2027 election.
The meeting between the three leaders is therefore likely to attract attention as the opposition continues to shape its political strategy ahead of the next election.
