The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has reminded taxpayers that the 2026 Tax Amnesty Programme will end on December 31, 2026.

The programme gives eligible taxpayers an opportunity to clear outstanding principal taxes while receiving a full waiver of related penalties, interest and fines.

The tax amnesty started on July 1, 2026, and applies to eligible tax debts that accrued up to December 31, 2025.

Taxpayers with outstanding principal tax are required to clear the amount before the December deadline to qualify for the waiver.

Those who have already paid all their principal taxes for periods up to December 31, 2025, do not need to make a separate application. They can automatically receive the waiver on the related penalties, interest and fines.

For taxpayers who still have outstanding principal tax, KRA allows them to settle the amount either through a lump-sum payment or an approved payment plan.

Under the payment-plan option, taxpayers can make arrangements through the iTax platform. However, all the principal tax covered by the arrangement must be fully paid by December 31, 2026, for the taxpayer to benefit from the amnesty.

KRA has urged taxpayers who qualify for the programme to take advantage of the opportunity before the deadline instead of waiting until the final days.

The authority has also been conducting public awareness and training sessions to help taxpayers understand the amnesty, determine whether they qualify and regularise their tax affairs.

The 2026 programme is aimed at helping taxpayers settle outstanding tax obligations while allowing them to avoid additional financial burdens caused by accumulated penalties, interest and fines.

With the deadline now set for December 31, taxpayers with eligible outstanding tax debts have less than four months to complete their payments and secure the available relief.
