A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) housing project in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, is almost complete, with 790 housing units now 98 per cent finished.

The houses are being constructed at Kwambuzi Military Camp as part of a wider government programme to improve housing for KDF personnel.

The Nanyuki project is among 3,069 housing units being developed for military personnel across the country under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

The construction has entered its final stage, with workers carrying out deep cleaning and other finishing activities before the houses are handed over.

The expected handover is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

The progress was confirmed following an inspection of the construction site, where officials reviewed the remaining work and preparations for occupation.

The project is expected to help address housing challenges facing KDF personnel while improving their living conditions and overall welfare.

The development also comes as the government expands opportunities for military personnel to own homes through affordable financing.

In July 2026, KDF personnel were set to benefit from a new mortgage scheme offering financing at an interest rate of about four per cent.

The mortgage programme was launched through a partnership involving the Kenya Defence Forces, the Civil Servants Housing Scheme Fund, the Affordable Housing Board and KCB Bank.

The arrangement is expected to give military personnel access to affordable mortgage financing and make home ownership easier for service members.

The government has said improving the welfare of military personnel remains a priority, considering the role they play in protecting the country.

The Nanyuki housing project is therefore part of wider efforts to provide decent and affordable housing for KDF personnel in different parts of Kenya.

With construction already at 98 per cent, the 790 homes are expected to be ready for handover once the final cleaning and finishing works are completed.
