President William Ruto has challenged his political opponents to stop focusing on criticism and political attacks and instead explain what they would do differently if given the chance to lead Kenya.

Speaking in Kajiado on Thursday, September 3, Ruto urged opposition leaders to present clear policies, development plans and a vision for the country.

He said Kenyans should judge political leaders based on the programmes and ideas they offer rather than political rhetoric.

Ruto’s remarks come as political activity increases ahead of the 2027 General Election, with various leaders positioning themselves for the coming contest.

The President also used his visit to Kajiado to highlight projects his administration is pursuing in the county.

He announced that the government had secured KSh5 billion to rehabilitate the road connecting Kajiado through Imororo to Isinya. He said a contractor was expected to begin work in September.

Ruto also defended his plans concerning Amboseli National Park, saying his administration remained committed to ensuring the park benefits the people of Kajiado despite legal challenges.

The President further spoke about the economic potential of Lake Magadi and the need for local residents to benefit more from the area’s natural resources.

He criticised Tata Chemicals Magadi, arguing that the company had operated in the area for many years without creating enough jobs or establishing industries that would benefit residents.

Ruto said future investment arrangements should include plans for a glass manufacturing plant and a chemical factory in Kajiado.

The President’s message comes as politicians prepare for the 2027 election, with the debate expected to increasingly focus on competing policies, development records and plans for the country’s future.
