Lydia Ngwiri, a secondary school teacher and counselor in Kenya, has revealed the hidden misconduct of some educators who exploit students under the cover of night within school premises.
Speaking on NTV’s morning show, Ngwiri explained that female students often endure distressing experiences at the hands of male teachers. She also noted that male students are not immune, citing cases where female teachers lure boys with material incentives, ultimately arranging secret nighttime meetings in vehicles for illicit encounters.
Ngwiri shared that she frequently receives reports from female students detailing inappropriate advances by teachers, while male students rarely come forward. Drawing from her experience, she takes the initiative to report these cases to the school principal, who then manages the situation.
In some cases, parents of the affected students are allegedly bribed, abruptly ending the matter. In others, however, reports lead to formal investigations, sometimes resulting in the dismissal of teachers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Alarmingly, in several boarding schools, male students have been subjected to homosexual advances, leaving lasting trauma throughout their secondary school years.
Ngwiri advocates for educating students on recognizing signs of inappropriate relationships. She urges students to promptly report any suspicious behavior to school authorities before situations escalate. This proactive approach is aimed at creating safer school environments and preventing the continuation of harmful practices.
