“ODM imegawanyika mara nne: kuna ya Joho ya uko Pwani, kuna ya Oparanya ya uko Western, kuna ya Oburu ya uko Nyanza, na kuna ODM ya Raila ambayo Sifuna na Babu wako nayo.”Rigathi Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that Kenya’s major political parties are currently divided into several factions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking about the situation within Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Gachagua alleged that the party has split into four different camps led by influential leaders from various regions.

According to him, one faction is associated with Hassan Joho in the Coastal region, another with Wycliffe Oparanya in Western Kenya, and another with Oburu Oginga in the Nyanza region. He also mentioned a separate faction aligned with ODM party leader Raila Odinga, which he claimed includes leaders such as Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino.

Gachagua further argued that the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has also weakened. He claimed that the party began falling apart after he was removed from office, saying the political support from the Mount Kenya region played a key role in building the party.

The former deputy president insisted that the Mount Kenya voting bloc was instrumental in forming UDA and warned that President William Ruto could face serious challenges in the 2027 general election without that support.

Gachagua also alleged that Ruto currently lacks a clear strategy to win the next election, adding that he believes it will be difficult for the president to secure enough votes in 2027.

The remarks highlight the growing political tensions and realignments in Kenya as leaders begin positioning themselves for the next general election.
