DJ Evolve, whose real name is Felix Orinda, has spoken publicly for the first time since undergoing successful surgery last month. In an interview with The Star on Thursday, he expressed his joy at regaining his voice, saying, “I never thought this day would come but I have finally regained my voice back. I have truly seen God works.” The surgery took place on March 6, 2023, but it wasn’t until this week that DJ Evolve was able to speak properly again.
This news comes just a few days after Babu Owino, a Kenyan lawmaker, was found to have a case to answer in the shooting of DJ Evolve. Owino was charged in 2020 following the incident at a club in Nairobi’s upmarket Kilimani area. Although a charge of attempted murder was withdrawn after talks with the victim, the state pressed misuse of firearm charges against Owino. On Tuesday, a magistrate ruled that Owino had a case to answer, and set June 15 for a defence hearing.
Owino’s defence team, led by criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta, has challenged claims that the bullet that hit DJ Evolve was fired from Owino’s gun. However, DJ Evolve has previously said that he forgives Owino, quoting Proverbs 17:9, which states that “love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.” He added that “no amount of anger or guilt can undo what is already done.”
DJ Evolve’s journey to recovery has been challenging, and he was hit with further tragedy when his mother passed away on September 23, 2021. However, he has remained positive and forgiving, and his successful surgery is a significant step forward in his rehabilitation.
The case has garnered significant attention in Kenya, with many calling for justice for DJ Evolve. The ruling that Owino has a case to answer is a step in that direction, and the upcoming defence hearing will be closely watched. In the meantime, DJ Evolve’s supporters will be pleased to hear that he is making progress and has regained his voice.
