Seme MP James Nyikal has challenged President William Ruto to ensure that all development projects promised or started by his administration in Nyanza are completed.
Nyikal said the government had made progress on several projects under the broad-based government arrangement, but noted that some projects were still ongoing while others had not been completed.
Speaking on Sunday, September 13, 2026, Nyikal said the government should ensure that projects already started are finished rather than being left incomplete.
He argued that continuity in government would be important in ensuring that development programmes already underway are completed.
Nyikal linked the completion of the projects to the future of the broad-based government after the 2027 General Election.
He said residents wanted to see the promises made to them translated into completed projects and tangible development.
The MP’s remarks came as President Ruto began a development tour of the Nyanza region, covering Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori.
The President has used the tour to highlight development projects and engage residents and local leaders as he seeks to strengthen his political support in the region.
Nyanza remains an important political region ahead of the 2027 General Election, having traditionally been a stronghold of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the ODM party.
Nyikal’s call therefore comes at a time when development and political alliances are becoming closely linked ahead of the next election.
The Seme MP urged the administration to maintain focus on projects that have already been launched and ensure they benefit residents.
He said completing the projects would demonstrate that government promises can be turned into actual development.
The remarks also add to the growing political debate in Nyanza, where leaders are assessing the performance of the current administration as political parties and alliances prepare for the 2027 contest.
