Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has promised to raise the minimum monthly salary for police officers to KSh100,000 if the Linda Mwananchi movement forms the next government.

Owino made the pledge on Sunday, September 13, 2026, while speaking to police officers who were deployed along the route of the Linda Mwananchi convoy in Nairobi.

He said officers at the lowest ranks would benefit from the proposed salary increase under a government led by the movement.

The promise came as Linda Mwananchi supporters moved through several parts of Nairobi before heading to Jacaranda Grounds for a major political rally.

The convoy passed through areas including Marikiti, Gikomba, Burma Market, Jogoo Road, Manyanja Road, B Centre and Stage 17.

Several opposition leaders and politicians joined the mobilisation as the movement continued its activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Police officers were deployed along the route to manage crowds and traffic as supporters followed the convoy.

Owino’s proposed salary would represent a significant increase from the current pay levels for junior police officers.

The government recently completed a three-year review of police salaries and allowances. Under the latest changes, the basic salary for newly recruited graduate police officers was increased from KSh20,390 to KSh38,975.

The salary of a serving police constable was also increased from KSh29,296, with the maximum reaching KSh57,700 depending on an officer’s grade and career progression.

Owino’s KSh100,000 proposal is therefore a political pledge by Linda Mwananchi and would require implementation by a future administration if the movement were to form government.

The promise comes as political movements intensify their campaigns and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
