A woman has come forward with a devastating account of systematic sexual abuse within her family, alleging her father repeatedly molested her and her sisters over many years, resulting in a pregnancy and a tragic death.
Mercy Wambui Mwiro from Murang’a recounts a childhood marred by violence, describing her father as a harsh man who regularly beat his wife and children.
The abuse, she says, escalated to sexual assault when she was in Class 8.
She detailed how her father would inappropriately touch her and, on one occasion, broke a window to force her and her younger sisters to sleep in his bed, where he attempted to assault her.
Mercy reported the incidents to her grandmother and other relatives, but no action was taken.
When she left home after her primary education, the abuse allegedly shifted to her younger sisters.
She claims her sister, Emma, was raped by their father from Class 6 until Form 4, when she became pregnant.
Despite Emma initially confessing the abuse to Mercy and her then-partner, she later recanted when faced with the possibility of her father being jailed.
A family meeting was held where, Mercy states, the father admitted to the acts.
The family’s solution was a ritual cleansing involving the slaughter of a goat, rather than legal justice.
Tragically, Emma died from complications shortly after giving birth to triplets.
The incident sparked community outrage, forcing the father into hiding.
Mercy now speaks out, burdened by grief and the struggle to help her mother care for Emma’s three infant children.
Her mother, however, denies all allegations, claiming Mercy is mentally unstable and intent on ruining the family’s name.
